Harrisburg Sprain Injury Lawyer

Soft tissue injuries are often misunderstood. Because they are somewhat common and frequently associated with apparently minor incidents and accidents, there exists a misperception that sprain injuries are insignificant and do not require medical attention. But obtaining proper medical care and a thorough assessment is an important step to prevent unnecessary complications and to identify the severity of the sprain. Typically a sprain will at least necessitate reduced use of the affected limb or extremity, and the most serious cases may need drastic treatments.

If you have been hurt as a result of another person’s negligence or recklessness, you might have grounds for filing a lawsuit seeking financial compensation for your injuries. Contact the Harrisburg sprain injury lawyers of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C. at 610-667-7511. Our experienced attorneys can help to guide you through the sometimes frustrating legal process so that you can obtain the monetary damages to which you are entitled.

Degrees of Injury

At the bare minimum, medical attention should be sought in the event of a soft tissue injury because it is difficult to accurately assess the extent of the damage on your own. There are five different degrees of sprain injury, classified by the severity and type of physical harm suffered. These are:

  • First Degree – a ligament is subject to relatively minor tearing or overextension
  • Second Degree-a ligament is torn completely, pain and swelling are likely to result
  • Third Degree – total rupture of a ligament, requiring weeks of recovery
  • Fourth Degree – a ligament and surrounding small bones are broken, surgery may be needed
  • Fifth Degree – all ligaments and surrounding bones are severely damaged, possibly irreparable and necessitating amputation
