What are nationwide laws for workers’ comp?
Although workers’ compensation is largely controlled by state governments, the federal government does take some types of employees under its wing. Here is a quick overview of national acts for workers’ comp:
- Black Lung Benefit Act – helps coal miners who suffer from black lung, or pneumonconiosis
- Federal Employees’ Compensation Act – specifically aids employees of the national government
- Federal Employers Liability Act – protects railroad workers who sustain injuries
- Federal Jones Act – regulates compensation for seamen and maritime workers
- Longshore and Harbor Worker Compensation Act – covers the sea- and water-related careers that are not included in the Jones Act
