A Harrisburg man was arrested Sunday after, police say, he grabbed the steering wheel of the car he was riding in and forced the car into oncoming traffic.

According to officials with the Harrisburg Police Department, the car accident occurred on the 1200 block of Paxton Street shortly after 12:00 p.m. Sunday. Several cars were involved and more than one person was injured, police said. The arrest report says 37 year-old Kevin Hardy was in the front passenger seat of a vehicle when he suddenly grabbed the wheel, allegedly causing the auto accident.

Hardy was knocked unconscious in the crash and taken to an area hospital for a head injury. The driver of Hardy’s vehicle, 41 year-old Joseph Smith, sustained a cut to his chin and declined medical treatment.

The driver of the vehicle Hardy’s car collided with sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the accident. The nature of his injuries is not known. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.

Five people were injured in a Harrisburg truck accident involving a Make-A-Wish Foundation convoy.

According to officials with the Pennsylvania State Police, a 149-vehicle Make-A-Wish Foundation convoy stopped for an unknown reason in Tyrone Township in Adams County Sunday afternoon. Police say a Snyder’s of Hanover delivery vehicle struck the back of a box truck in the convoy, triggering the chain reaction crash. The box truck rear-ended a 10-wheel vehicle, which rear-ended another vehicle.

Occupants of the delivery vehicle were thrown through the front windshield onto the highway and were run over, according to Harrisburg-based state police. They say at least one of the victims was trapped underneath a vehicle and was rescued by firefighters.

The five injured victims were transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.

A man was killed in a Harrisburg car accident Tuesday afternoon.

According to officials with the Schuylikill County Sheriff’s Department, 45 year-old Norman Tuttle was pronounced dead at the scene of a two vehicle accident on Route 125 in Eldred Township. Deputies said Tuttle was traveling north on Route 125 in a tractor-trailer transporting a load of potatoes. He was driving too fast to safely negotiate a right-hand turn in the roadway, causing the rear portion of his tractor-trailer to collide with another vehicle, deputies said.

According to the accident report, the other vehicle, driven by 52 year-old Carl Adams, was transporting bales of hay. The tractor-trailer knocked Adams’ vehicle onto its passenger side, deputies said. The tractor-trailer then fell onto its driver’s side and slid off the roadway into an embankment.

Adams was transported by ambulance to Schuylkill Medical Center South for treatment of a minor injury.

A three-vehicle accident occurred last Thursday morning around 6:30 AM in Lehigh County, leaving one person dead and two others burned.  The accident involved a car and two tractor-trailers in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 78 in Lower Saucon Township, Pennsylvania.

One of the tractor-trailers caught fire after the three vehicles collided, leaving two of the drivers with serious burns.  The two were taken to Saint Luke’s Hospital for treatment.   52-year old truck driver Mario Chacon of Palmer Township was killed in the accident.

Police did not report on the specifics of how the accident occurred.

A car accident occurred last night in Philadelphia when a SEPTA bus and DRPA vehicle collided and continued into a popular restaurant.

Philadelphia city officials reported that the accident occurred when the SEPTA bus traveling northbound on 16th Street was struck by a Delaware River Port Authority vehicle traveling westbound on Spruce.  The two vehicles crashed into Monk’s Cafe owned by Tom Peters after colliding.  Peters, who lives in one of the apartments above the restaurant, said he was awoken by the accident to see a cloud of smoke and the bus partially inside his restaurant.

All apartment residents were evacuated, but none were injured from the accident.  The bus driver and DRPA driver were taken to Jefferson Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Two Bucks County residents were killed Friday morning in a tragic three-vehicle car accident in Coolbaugh Township, Pennsylvania.

58-year olds John and Christine Inscho were traveling northbound on Interstate 380 around 4:30 AM on Friday.  The couple slowed and stopped due to traffic from an unrelated accident in the southbound lanes of 380.  Unfortunately, the tractor-trailer behind them, driven by 48-year old Victor Sanchez-Hernandez, was unable to stop in time, and rear-ended the Inscho’s SUV.  The SUV then ran into a Chevrolet Traverse stopped in front of it.

Sanchez-Hernandez suffered minor injuries from the accident, and none of the passengers in the Chevrolet Traverse were injured.  It was not reported whether or not the Inschos died at the scene of the accident or were transported to a hospital.

Saturday morning, two Pennsylvania men were injured in a two-car accident in Lewis County, West Virginia.

According to Lewis County Sheriff’s Department officials, the accident occurred just before 9 AM on Saturday morning around the 104 mile marker on Interstate 79 south.   Ralph Bennett of Avella, PA was driving his minivan with Earl Williams of Bentleyville, PA when one of the van’s tires blew.  The minivan ran into the trailer of a tractor-trailer in the next lane and began to spin.   Williams was thrown from the van through the passenger side window.

Both Williams and Bennett were taken to Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital.   Williams was later transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.  No information was released on the men’s injuries or conditions.

Lewis County officials are investigating the accident.
