Wrong diagnosis leaves man without stomach

Posted on Monday, November 14th, 2011 at 6:48 pm

A medical malpractice lawsuit has been filed in Australia due to a misdiagnosis of stomach cancer.

The patient, a 59-year-old man, was told he suffered from stomach cancer and that chemotherapy and surgery were necessary in order to remove the cancerous areas. During the surgery, 80 percent of his stomach was removed and he underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy only to find out he was wrongfully diagnosed.

The post-op evaluation showed no signs of cancerous cells in the removed lymph nodes or in the stomach. The trauma from this caused the man to suffer depression and anxiety. He is seeking payment for his suffering.
