MADD wants increased consequences for drunk drivers in Pennsylvania

Posted on December 12th, 2011 No Comments

Mothers Against Drunk Driving, MADD, believe that the state of Pennsylvania is not doing enough in regards to the punishment of first-time drunk drivers.

The organization is turning to leaders in Harrisburg to push legislation that will increase the consequences handed down to first-time offenders. MADD wants ignition interlock devices placed on any vehicle where the owner has received a drunk driving conviction, even first-time convictions.

Last year in the state of Pennsylvania, 406 people lost their lives as a result of drunk driving accidents.

If you have been injured in a car accident due to a drunk driver, please contact the Harrisburg DUI accident victim attorneys of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C. by calling 610-667-7511 today.

Woman awarded $6.8 million in DUI accident

Posted on August 24th, 2010 No Comments

Yesterday, a woman injured by a drunk driver in 2007 was awarded $6.8 million in damages by a eastern Pennsylvania jury.  The Chester County jury ruled that a Coatesville restaurant was guilty of continuing to serve a visibly intoxicated customer.

The customer, Omar Villalava-Martinez, was drinking at the Famous Mexican Restaurant and Bar in Coatesville before he drove and crashed head-on into Ryan Fell’s vehicle four miles down the road.  Villalava-Martinez was an illegal immigrant and has since been deported to Mexico.  The Famous Mexian Restaurant and Bar has closed since the accident.

Since the March 2007 car accident, Ryan Fell of West Brandywine says that she is still in pain from the accident and has remained unemployed ever since.
