Three young children were killed when a station wagon crashed into a highway guardrail and rolled down an embankment in Harrisburg, Monday.
According to officials with the Pennsylvania State Police Department, a 57 year-old woman was driving through Middle Paxton Township, in Dauphin County, Saturday night when the accident occurred. Police say the car veered out of its lane, crashed through a guardrail, and struck a guide wire before going airborne and crashing into a tree. The vehicle rolled down a fifty foot embankment and landed upside down, police say.
Deputy Coroner Lynn Choborda says a 5 year-old boy, a 3 year-old boy, and a 3 year-old girl were killed in the accident. The driver is hospitalized in serious condition, Choborda said.
Harrisburg police say the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
