A Pennsylvania man has been sentenced for driving under the influence in relation to a crash that killed a police officer.
Levittown-resident Frank Budka Jr. was sentenced Tuesday to 4 1/2 to 17 years in state prison for driving under the influence and causing the death of Middletown Township police officer Chris Jones. Jones, a married 37 year-old father of three and 10-year veteran of the police force, was struck by his own patrol car after Budka's vehicle crashed into it. Jones' police cruiser was stopped on the side of the road during a routine traffic detail on January 29, 2009, when Budka slammed into the vehicle pushing it forward into the police officer.
At the time of the crash, Budka had marijuana, cocaine, metabolites, and methadone in his system.
According to police, an accident reconstruction estimates Budka was driving 63 miles per hour when the crash occurred.
