A student at Penn State died Monday night after sufferingcomplications from injuries sustained in a car accident earlier this month.
According to Pennsylvania State police at Phillipsburg, 19year-old Rachel Petkac was taken to Geisinger Medical Center on January 8 aftershe lost control of her mini-van on Route 550. Police say the vehicle crashedinto a telephone pole on the side of the road.
“She hit [the telephone pole] on the driver side door.”State Trooper Walter Butler said. “The vehicle as a ‘V’. The telephone polecame into the vehicle almost halfway.”
Officials for the Pennsylvania Highway Patrol say Petkac wastraveling at about 55 mph when she crashed, ten miles over the speed limit.
